How to View iCloud Contacts on a Computer

To view iCloud contacts on a computer, open icloud.com/contacts, sign in to the Apple Account that stores them, and select All Contacts or another list. Select a person's name to see their contact card. You can use the website on Windows or Mac without installing Outlook or a recovery utility.

Apple says Contacts on iCloud.com requires a computer or tablet. Use the Contacts app on your iPhone when you want to browse directly on the phone.

Check which contacts are stored in iCloud

The website shows contacts stored in iCloud, not every contact visible on every device. An iPhone can display contacts from several accounts, including a work directory or an email provider. Those collections can appear together in the phone's Contacts app.

Use the same Apple Account on the website and the device whose iCloud contacts you want. If the browser is already signed in, check the account before concluding that contacts are missing.

To check the iPhone's iCloud setting:

1. Open Settings and tap your name.
2. Tap iCloud.
3. Tap See All or Show All, depending on your version.
4. Check that Contacts is enabled if you want to use iCloud Contacts.
5. Read any merge or local-data prompt before confirming a change, then allow the phone to connect and sync.

Do not use Back Up Now as a required way to refresh the live contacts list. Device backup and contact synchronization are different features. An old guide's instruction to run a full backup before viewing contacts is not the current web-viewing procedure.

Open the contacts website

1. Open a current web browser on a computer or tablet.
2. Go directly to icloud.com/contacts.
3. Sign in to the intended Apple Account if requested. Complete any verification shown using your own trusted device or phone number.
4. Select All Contacts in the sidebar to view the full iCloud collection, or select a specific list to narrow it.
5. Select a contact in the list. Its details should appear in the contact card.
6. Review the name, telephone numbers, and email addresses without choosing Edit if you only need to look something up.

A selected list is a filter. If one person is absent from a particular list, return to All Contacts before deciding that the record is missing.

Selecting a telephone number, email address, or street address may open another app, window, or tab, depending on the computer's configuration. To copy information without starting a call or message, select the text and use the browser's normal copy controls where available.

Change sorting and name display

Sort Order determines where a name appears in the alphabetical list. Display Order determines how the first and last names are written. You might prefer sorting by last name while still displaying the first name first.

1. In Contacts on iCloud.com, open the settings control in the sidebar.
2. Find Sort Order and select first name or last name.
3. Find Display Order and select the name arrangement you prefer.
4. Select Save.
5. Inspect the list and a familiar contact to confirm both choices.

The same settings area provides Address Layout for a country or region and an option to automatically format phone numbers. Review those settings if addresses or punctuation look unfamiliar. Changing a display format is different from editing someone's actual phone number.

Apple also notes that entering a country or region in a contact's address can change that card's address fields to match the region. Use Edit only when you intend to modify the stored record.

If a contact is missing

Start with the account and list checks. Confirm the Apple Account on the website, select All Contacts, and compare it with the iCloud list on your device.

On a current iPhone, Settings > Apps > Contacts > Contacts Accounts shows other configured contact services. Default Account determines where new contacts are added when multiple accounts are available. Older versions put Contacts directly on the main Settings screen.

Apple's contact account guide explains these controls. Turning on iCloud Contacts does not mean that every record belonging to a separate email account has been moved into iCloud. Check the relevant provider when a person exists only in that account's list.

If the correct iCloud account is selected and a recent change has not appeared, allow time for synchronization and check internet access on the originating device. Reload the web page after the sync has had time to complete. Avoid repeatedly switching account synchronization off and on without understanding the data prompt.

Save an optional copy as a vCard

A vCard is a contact file, commonly using the .vcf extension. Exporting provides a copy you can keep or import elsewhere. To send individual cards straight from the phone instead, see how to share contacts on iPhone. It does not disconnect your devices from iCloud.

1. Select a single contact, or hold Control on Windows or Command on Mac while selecting several contacts.
2. To export the whole collection, use the list's top control and choose Select All Contacts.
3. Open the export control on the right and choose Export vCard.
4. Save the downloaded file somewhere you can find it, then check its name and location.

Multiple selected contacts are exported together in one vCard. Apple documents this in Import, export, or print contacts. Protect the downloaded file because it contains people's contact information, especially on a shared computer.

Do not assume opening a multi-contact vCard in another program will import every entry correctly. Review that program's import support before using it to transfer a whole address book.

Recover an accidentally deleted iCloud contact

Restoration changes the contacts collection across devices using iCloud Contacts. Export the current collection first if you want a separate copy, and review the archive date before proceeding.

On a computer or tablet, open iCloud Contacts, use the toolbar's Data Recovery option, select Restore Contacts, and inspect the available archived versions. Choose Restore beside the version you intend to recover.

Apple says the current version is archived before restoration, so you can return to it if needed. Wait for restoration to finish before editing contacts; changes made during the process are not saved. A recently deleted contact's archive can take up to 24 hours to appear.

Common questions

Do I need iCloud for Windows or Outlook just to view contacts?

No. The web route provides viewing in a browser. Integrating contacts into desktop Outlook is a separate setup with its own requirements.

Can viewing a contact change it on my phone?

Simply selecting a card is a viewing action. Editing or deleting an iCloud record can synchronize that change to other devices, so avoid those controls when you only want to look up a number.

What should I do on a shared computer?

Sign out when finished, avoid saving account credentials, and check whether you downloaded a contact file. Treat that local copy separately from signing out of the website.

Finish by confirming the account, selecting All Contacts, and checking one known record. That verifies the correct collection before you export or make any changes.
