How to Get the Swype Keyboard on the iPhone 5

People who have used Android devices in the past know that there are other types of keyboards available for smartphones. Previously iPhone users had only been able to use the default keyboard, but the iOS 8 update has opened the door for third-party keyboards to be installed on your device. One of the most popular of these third-party options is the Swype keyboard, and it is now available for iPhones that have updated to iOS 8.

The method described below will require you to purchase and download the Swype keyboard app, then change a setting on your device. If you have previously added the Emoji keyboard to your iPhone 5, then you will be familiar with the steps needed for adding a new keyboard.

The steps in this article were performed on an iPhone 5 running the iOS 8 operating system. Earlier versions of iOS do not have the ability to install third-party keyboards.
