The steps below were performed on an Apple Watch 2, in Watch OS 3.1.2. The step count is located in the Activity app on the watch, so these steps will guide you to that exact location.
Step 1: Open the Activity app on your Apple Watch.
You can get to the app screen by pressing the crown button on the side of the watch when you are on the Home screen. If you are not on the Home screen, you may need to press the crown a couple of times.
Step 2: Swipe up from the bottom of the watch face.
Step 3: Scroll down a bit on this menu until you locate the step count.
