Opening Links in the Background on the iPhone 5

There are a couple of different ways to open links in the Safari browser on your iPhone.

The first and most common method is to tap the link to navigate to the linked page. Depending upon how that link was coded on the website this could open the page in the same tab or open it in a new tab.

The second method for opening links is to tap and hold the link, which will bring up a menu with options.

One of the default options on this menu is to open the link in a new tab. This will take you to the new page immediately.

But this is an option that can be adjusted, and you can instead choose to open the link in the background.

This method allows you to finish the page that you are reading, and then you can switch to the new tab when you are ready.

Our guide below will show you how to change the setting in your Safari browser that controls this behavior.
