But a subtype of networks that you can join includes hotspots, and it’s possible that you could connect to them automatically when they’re in range, too.

If you don’t want to take advantage of this automatic connection option, however, then you have the ability to change a setting and prevent that from occuring.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Choose Wi-Fi.
  3. Select Auto-Join Hotspot.
  4. Tap the Never option.

How to Prevent Auto-Joining Hotspots on an iPhone

The steps in this article were performed on an iPhone 11 in iOS 13.6.1.

Step 1: Open the Settings app.

Step 2: Select the Wi-Fi option neat the top of the menu.

Step 3: Scroll to the bottom of the menu and touch the Auto-Join Hotspot option.

Step 4: Tap Never to stop your iPhone from automatically connecting to hotspots.

Note that you could choose one of the other options on this menu instead if you prefer.

There is also an option on the menu in Step 3 that lets you control how you connect to other Wi-Fi networks, too. Simply tap the Ask to Join Networks button and configure that as needed.
