To sign in to Prime Video on a TV, open the Prime Video app and choose Sign in and start watching, then enter your Amazon email and password. Or choose Register on the Amazon website, go to primevideo.com/ontv/devices on your phone or computer, sign in, and type the code shown on your TV.
Both methods link the TV to your Amazon account, and the code is often faster than typing a password with a remote. Fire TV devices sign in to Prime Video automatically with your Amazon account. The steps follow Amazon’s Prime Video device page.

How to Sign In to Prime Video on a Smart TV
- Open the Prime Video app on your TV. If you don’t see it, open your TV’s app store and install it.
- Choose Sign in and start watching to type your Amazon email and password with the remote.
- Or choose Register on the Amazon website. The TV shows a 5- to 6-character code, and some TVs also show a QR code. Scan the QR code with your phone camera to skip the next step. If your phone does not react to the code, see how to scan a QR code on Android.
- On your phone or computer, go to the web address shown on your TV, such as primevideo.com/ontv/devices, and sign in to your Amazon account.
- Type the code from your TV and submit it.
- Wait a few seconds. Your TV will load your Prime Video home screen.
The same steps work on streaming players like Roku, on Blu-ray players, and on game consoles. On a tablet you sign in inside the app instead, as covered in how to watch Amazon Prime Video on an iPad. New to Roku? See how to set up Roku.

Sign In From the Prime Video Phone App
Amazon’s Prime Video install guide says that if your phone has the Prime Video app and is on the same home Wi-Fi as the TV, you may get a sign-in notification on your phone.
- Make sure your phone and TV are on the same Wi-Fi network.
- Open the Prime Video app on the TV and go to the sign-in screen.
- On your phone, tap the notification from the Prime Video app.
- Confirm the sign-in. The TV loads your Prime Video home screen.

Signing into a Prime Video app on another brand of TV uses its own linking flow. To switch accounts later on a Roku, see how to sign out of Prime Video on a Roku.
How to Sign In on a Fire TV or Fire TV Stick
Fire TV devices use your Amazon account for everything, so Prime Video is signed in when the device is.
- Turn on the Fire TV.
- Sign in with your Amazon account when asked during setup.
- Press the Home button on your remote and open Prime Video.
If the wrong account is signed in, see how to sign out of an Amazon account on a Fire TV Stick.
What If the Code Doesn’t Work?
- Make sure you are signed in to the same Amazon account you use for Prime.
- Type the code exactly as it appears. If it still fails, go back on the TV to get a new code.
- Check that your TV is connected to the internet.
- Close the Prime Video app and open it again, or update the app from your TV’s app store.
- If you see error 5005 or another sign-in error, check that you’re using the right account details, then try again. Temporary connection problems cause many sign-in errors, according to Amazon.
- Forgot your password? Select Forgot your password? on the Amazon sign-in page to reset it.
How to Sign Out of Prime Video on a TV
To sign out on the TV itself, open the Prime Video app, go to Settings (the gear icon or your profile), and select Sign out. The exact spot varies by TV brand.
If you can’t reach the TV, such as at a hotel or an old home, remove it from your account instead:
- On a computer, go to the Prime Video website and sign in.
- Open Account & Settings, then the Devices tab.
- Select Deregister next to the TV you want to remove.
Amazon lists this fix in its Prime Video sign-in help. Changing your Amazon password is a good idea too if you signed in on a TV you don’t control.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need Amazon Prime to use Prime Video on my TV?
You need an Amazon account with access to Prime Video. That can be a full Prime membership or a Prime Video monthly membership. Not sure what you have? Here is how to check if you have Amazon Prime. If you don’t have an account yet, see how to create an Amazon account.
What if my TV doesn’t have the Prime Video app?
Use a streaming device like a Fire TV Stick, Roku or Google TV Streamer, or a game console. You can also cast from the Prime Video app on your phone to a TV with Google Cast built in, or cast your Windows laptop to the TV.
Can I use the same Amazon account on more than one TV?
Yes. You can sign in on each TV with the same account by following the steps above.
Does this work on a PlayStation, Xbox, or Roku?
Yes. Install the Prime Video app from the device’s app store, then use the code, QR code, or sign-in option the same way you would on a smart TV. YouTube uses a similar code sign-in, covered in how to watch YouTube on a Roku.
