To remove a downloaded Audible book from your iPhone, open the Audible app, tap Library, tap the three-dot More button next to the book, and tap Remove download. The audio file is deleted from your phone, but the book stays in your Audible library, so you can download it again at any time.
These steps are for the current Audible app for iPhone, on iOS 27 and on iOS 26. If your screen shows Remove from Device instead of Remove download, you have an older version of the app; the option does the same thing.
Pick the Right Kind of “Remove”
Audible has three ways to remove a book, and only the first one frees space on your iPhone without costing you anything.

How to Delete a Downloaded Audiobook in the Audible App
- Open the Audible app on your iPhone. It has an orange icon.
- Tap Library in the row of tabs at the bottom of the screen. Your audiobooks appear in a list.
- Tap the Downloaded filter near the top of the Library to show only the books saved on your phone. It sits with the other filters, such as Not started, In progress, and Finished.
- Find the book you want to remove and tap the three-dot More button to the right of its title. A menu opens with options for that book.
- Tap Remove download. The book stays in your Library, but it no longer shows as downloaded and drops out of the Downloaded filter.
You can also press and hold a book in the Library to open the same menu. Older versions of the app let you swipe left on a book and tap Remove from Device, which does the same thing.
To bring a book back, find it in Library, tap the three-dot More button, and tap Download. Use Wi-Fi if you can, since audiobook files are large.
Remove Several Audiobooks at Once
If you’ve finished a whole series or need space fast, remove downloads in a batch. Audible lists these steps in its library guide.
- Open Library.
- Tap Select.
- Tap the box next to each book you want to remove from your phone.
- Tap Remove Download. Every selected book is deleted from the iPhone and stays in your library.
The same Select screen also offers Remove from Library for the books you check. Think about whether you’ll want the books offline again soon: Audible’s download help page says there’s no bulk download option, so books come back one at a time.
Have Audible Remove Finished Books Automatically
If you listen to a lot of books, turn on Auto-remove so you don’t have to clean up by hand.
- In the Audible app, tap Profile at the bottom of the screen.
- Tap the Settings gear icon.
- Tap Data & Storage.
- Turn on Auto-remove. From now on, a downloaded book is deleted from your iPhone after you finish listening to it.

- Download quality: choose Standard or High. Standard files are smaller.
- Auto-download: downloads every new purchase right away. Turn it off if you’d rather choose what goes on your phone.
- Stream & download on Wi-Fi only: keeps large downloads off your cellular plan.

How Much Space Will You Get Back?
Audiobooks are among the larger files on most phones. A long book in High quality can take up several hundred megabytes, and a whole series can add up to a few gigabytes. To see how much space Audible uses, open Settings on your iPhone, tap General, tap iPhone Storage, and find Audible in the list. The number includes your downloaded books. Check again after you remove downloads to confirm the space came back.
Don’t use Offload App on that screen to clear audiobooks. Apple’s iPhone storage guide says offloading frees the space used by the app but keeps its documents and data, so your downloaded books stay on the phone. Delete App removes the app and its data, including the downloads, but you then have to reinstall Audible, sign in again, and redo your settings. How to Permanently Delete an Audible Book
Only do this if you never want the book again. Permanent deletion can’t be undone, and you lose access to the book on every device. If you later want it back, you’d have to buy it again.
Audible says you can only permanently delete audiobooks on the Amazon website or by contacting Audible customer support. You can’t do it in the iPhone app.
- In a web browser, sign in to Amazon with the account you use for Audible and open Manage Your Content and Devices.
- Filter the list by Content and find the audiobook.
- Select the book and choose Delete.
- Confirm with Yes, delete permanently.
If you only want a book out of sight, use Remove from Library in the app instead.
If the Book Won’t Go Away
- The book is still in your Library after you removed the download. That’s expected. Remove download only deletes the file from your phone. Use Remove from Library if you want it out of the list.
- You don’t see Remove download. The book probably isn’t downloaded. Tap the Downloaded filter to see which books are on your phone.
- iPhone Storage still shows a large number for Audible. Give the iPhone a few minutes to update the figure, or close and reopen Settings. Also check for books that come in several parts, and make sure all of them were removed.
- New books keep filling up your phone. Check whether Auto-download is on under Profile > Settings > Data & Storage. When it’s on, every new purchase downloads right away.
- Your Library looks out of date. Go to Profile, tap the Settings gear, tap Library, then tap Refresh Library. Audible says this needs the latest version of the app, so update Audible in the App Store first.
- A book you’re looking for seems to be gone. You may still have the Downloaded filter on. Switch the filter back to show all titles.
