Windows storage settings and a web browser’s download setting are different controls. Use the Windows setting to choose a drive for new content types. Use your browser’s settings when you want to change where files downloaded by that browser are saved.
Change Windows storage defaults
- Select Start > Settings > System > Storage.
- Open Advanced storage settings > Where new content is saved.
- Choose a drive for each available content type.
- Make sure the selected drive is connected and has enough free space.
This controls Windows defaults for supported new content categories. It does not move files that already exist.
Change the download folder in Microsoft Edge
- In Edge, select Settings and more > Settings > Downloads.
- Check the folder shown under Location.
- Choose a different folder when you want browser downloads to go elsewhere.
Other browsers have their own download-location settings, so update the browser that actually downloads the files.

Will this move my existing downloads?
No. Move existing files separately in File Explorer after confirming that the destination drive is available.
