How to View Your Google Contacts List

To view your Google Contacts list, go to contacts.google.com and sign in with your Google account. Your saved contacts show up in a list, and people you’ve emailed but never saved are under Other contacts. On an Android phone, the Contacts app shows the same list once you’re signed in. On an iPhone, add your Google account under Settings > Apps > Contacts to see them in the Contacts app.

Delete several or all Google contacts on Android

Export a copy using the section below before deleting. Check which account supplies the contacts: deleting Google-account contacts also changes that account’s contacts on other synced devices.

1. Open Google’s Contacts app and select the intended account or contact source.
2. Touch and hold a contact to select it, then select additional contacts. To select the displayed list, use the more-options menu > Select all.
3. Review the selection, choose Delete, and confirm only the intended contacts.
4. Check the remaining list. Repeat separately for another account or local/device contacts if you intend to clear those too.

Selecting one Google account does not erase every contact source on the phone. Manufacturer apps and SIM-contact controls can differ. Google contacts normally remain recoverable in Trash for 30 days; use Organize > Trash in the Contacts app and recover the selected items if needed. See Google’s deletion and recovery instructions.

Where Google Keeps Your Contacts

Google Contacts is the address book for your Google Account. Gmail, Android phones and other Google apps all read from it, so a contact you save in one place shows up in the others. Google says contacts saved to your Google Account sync with Google Contacts and all your Android devices.

Your list has two parts:

• Contacts: people you saved yourself, or imported.
• Other contacts: email addresses Google saved automatically when you emailed someone who wasn’t a contact. Google uses these to suggest addresses the next time you email that person. Other Google apps suggest people too, and you can stop Google Slides from suggesting contacts in comments if those pop-ups get in the way.

If you have more than one Google Account, such as a personal Gmail and a work account, each one has its own separate contact list.

How to View Google Contacts on a Computer

1. Go to contacts.google.com in any web browser. From Gmail, you can also click the Google apps grid (nine dots) at the top right and select Contacts. Result: Google Contacts opens.
2. Sign in if asked, and check the profile picture at the top right to confirm you’re in the right account. Result: your contacts appear in a list.
3. Use the search bar at the top to find someone by name, email or phone number. Result: matching contacts appear as you type.
4. Select a contact to see all their details. Result: the contact card opens with phone numbers, emails, notes and more.
5. Select Other contacts on the left to see addresses Gmail saved for you. Result: the auto-saved list appears.

Google notes that you won’t see Other contacts on an iPhone, iPad or Android device, so use a computer for that list. Google also keeps an edit history on each contact, shown under History at the bottom right of the contact, though older contacts may not have one.

Stop Gmail from adding Other contacts automatically

In Gmail, click Settings at the top right, then see all settings. In the “Create contacts for auto-complete” section, select I’ll add contacts myself, and click Save changes. For more on this setting, see how to automatically create new contacts in Gmail.

Delete a Google Contact on a Computer

Open Google Contacts and check that you are signed in to the account you intend to edit. Export a backup first if needed. Check the box beside the contact, select More > Delete > Move to trash, and review the remaining list. You can select several boxes to remove multiple contacts.

The change also syncs to devices using that Google account. Saved contacts normally stay in Trash for 30 days: open Trash, select the contact, and choose Recover if you made a mistake. Filter Your List With Labels

Labels work like groups. Google’s labels help page explains how to use them:

• Create a label: on the left next to “Labels,” click Create label, type a name, and click Save.
• Add contacts: check the box next to each contact, click Manage labels at the top, pick the label, and click Apply.
• View a label: click its name on the left to see only those contacts.
• Email a group: in Gmail, start typing the label name in the To field and select it. Every contact in the label is added.

If a contact has several email addresses, Google adds only the default one to a label group.

How to View Google Contacts on an Android Phone

Google says your contacts sync to your Android device when you sign in, and if several Google Accounts are signed in, contacts from all of them sync.

1. Open the Contacts app. On some phones, it’s a tab inside the Phone app. Result: your contacts list opens.
2. Tap your profile picture or account name at the top and choose the Google account you want. Result: the list shows that account’s contacts.
3. Search or scroll to find someone. Result: tap a name to see details.

If contacts don’t appear, check that sync is on. Google’s path is device Settings > your profile picture > All services > Google Contacts sync, then choose the account. Contacts saved only to the phone may be labeled “Phone,” “Device” or “Local” and won’t show in Google Contacts until you back them up to your account.

How to View Google Contacts on an iPhone

Apple’s contacts account guide gives this path for iOS 27:

1. Open Settings, tap Apps, then Contacts. Result: Contacts settings open.
2. Tap Contact Accounts, then Add Account, and choose Google. If your Google account is already there, tap it instead. Result: the Google sign-in or account screen appears.
3. Sign in, turn on Contacts, and tap Save. Result: your iPhone starts syncing Google contacts.
4. Open the Contacts app. Result: your Google contacts appear after they sync.

On older iOS versions, look under Settings > Contacts > Accounts. If contacts aren’t syncing, Google suggests tapping your Google account in Contact Accounts, then Account > Advanced, and turning on Use SSL.

How to Export Your Google Contacts List

If you want a copy of your list as a file, Google’s export help page gives these steps:

1. In Google Contacts, check the box next to one or more contacts. To pick everyone, check any box, then use Selection Actions > All at the top left. Result: your contacts are selected.
2. Click More actions > Export at the top right. Result: the export options appear.
3. Choose Google CSV to back up your contacts, or vCard for other apps. Result: the format is set.
4. Click Export. Result: the file downloads to your computer.

If Contacts Are Missing

• Check the account. Make sure you’re signed in to the Google account that holds the contacts.
• Check Other contacts and labels. The person may be in Other contacts or filtered under a label.
• Check Trash. Google’s delete contacts help page says deleted contacts stay in Trash for 30 days. Scroll down on the left in Google Contacts, click Trash, select the contact and recover it.
• Undo changes. Contacts deleted from Other contacts don’t go to Trash, but Google says you can recover them by undoing all changes within the past 30 days.
• Check phone sync. On Android, confirm Google Contacts sync is on. On iPhone, make sure Contacts is turned on for your Google account.
