How to Stop Unlocking Your iPhone with Your Fingerprint

iPhone models, starting with the iPhone 5S, include a fingerprint scanner on the Home button that has some useful functionality. Aside from being compatible with Apple Pay, it also allows you to unlock your device. This is a more convenient alternative to a passcode for many users.

But you might find that you are accidentally unlocking your device a lot, or you may have registered someone else’s fingerprint on your iPhone, and you do not want them to be able to unlock it anymore. Fortunately you can turn off the feature that allows the device to be unlocked with a fingerprint by following our short guide below.


Disable Touch ID from Unlocking Your iPhone

These steps were performed on an iPhone 6 Plus, in iOS 8. Touch ID was not available on iPhone models prior to the iPhone 5S.


Step 1: Tap the Settings icon.

Step 2: Scroll down and tap the Touch ID & Passcode option.

Step 3 (optional): Enter your passcode, if you have one set.

Step 4: Tap the button to the right of iPhone Unlock to turn it off. There will not be any shading around the button when this feature is turned off, as in the image below.
