How to Find the Phone Number on an iPad

To find the phone number on an iPad, open Settings, tap General, tap About, and look for Cellular Data Number. This number only appears on Wi-Fi + Cellular iPads with an active data plan. If you want the number people use to text or FaceTime you on the iPad, check Settings > Apps > Messages > Send & Receive instead.

These steps apply to iPadOS 27, iPadOS 26, and iPadOS 18. On iPadOS 17 and earlier, Messages and FaceTime are listed directly in Settings rather than under Apps.

Does an iPad Have a Phone Number?

It depends on the model and what you mean by “phone number.”

• Wi-Fi + Cellular iPad with a data plan: your carrier assigns a number to the data line. That’s the Cellular Data Number. It identifies the line on your carrier account, but the iPad can’t make or receive regular phone calls or SMS texts on it. Apple’s cellular data guide covers what that plan does on an iPad.
• Wi-Fi-only iPad: there’s no cellular line, so there’s no number to find. You can still use iMessage and FaceTime with your Apple Account email address.
• Any iPad signed in to your Apple Account: if you have an iPhone, its number can be used for iMessage, FaceTime and relayed calls on the iPad. That’s the number your friends see when you contact them from the iPad.

Find the iPad’s Cellular Data Number

1. Open the Settings app.
2. Tap General.
3. Tap About.
4. Scroll down to the cellular section and find Cellular Data Number. On some iPads, this section also shows the carrier name, IMEI and ICCID.
5. To copy the number, touch and hold it, then tap Copy.

Apple lists the fields on this screen in its iPad About guide, and carriers such as Verizon point to the same About path. Don’t mix the cellular data number up with the IMEI, ICCID, EID or Serial Number on the same screen. Those identify the iPad hardware or its SIM, not a phone line.

If the iPad has two plans, such as a physical SIM and an eSIM, each active line can have its own number. Open Settings > Cellular Data to see which plan is turned on before you report a number to your carrier.

The About screen holds several private identifiers, so crop any screenshot to just the number before you share it.

Find the Number Used for Messages and FaceTime

1. Open Settings and tap Apps.
2. Tap Messages, then Send & Receive.
3. Look at the list of phone numbers and email addresses near the top of the screen. Any phone number with a check mark is the number people can message you at on this iPad.
4. For FaceTime, go back to Apps, tap FaceTime, and look at the same You can be reached list.

If you see only an email address, your iPhone number isn’t linked to the iPad. Apple’s guide to adding your phone number to Messages and FaceTime explains the setup:

1. On the iPhone, open Settings > Apps > Messages, make sure iMessage is on, and tap Send & Receive. Check your phone number and Apple Account.
2. On the iPhone, open Settings > Apps > FaceTime and check the same items under You can be reached by FaceTime at.
3. On the iPad, sign in to Messages and FaceTime with the same Apple Account, then return to Send & Receive and check the phone number.

The iPhone’s SIM or eSIM must be active for its number to appear. Apple also warns that sharing one Apple Account with another person lets them see your conversations, so give family members their own accounts through Family Sharing instead.

To get regular green-bubble texts on the iPad as well, turn on Text Message Forwarding on your iPhone.

If messages are showing up on an iPad you share with family and you’d rather they didn’t, stop text messages from going to the iPad.

Other Ways to Get the Number

When the iPad itself won’t show the number, these sources usually will:

• Your carrier account. Sign in to the carrier’s app or website and open the tablet or connected-device line. The number is listed there with the plan.
• Activation paperwork or email. The welcome email, receipt or text you got when the line was set up normally includes the number.
• Your iPhone. For the number used by Messages and FaceTime, open Settings > Apps > Phone > My Number on the iPhone that is linked to the iPad.

If You Can’t Find a Cellular Data Number

You have a Wi-Fi-only iPad. Open Settings. If there’s no Cellular Data option near the top, your iPad doesn’t have cellular hardware and has no number.

The cellular plan isn’t active. Open Settings > Cellular Data and check that a plan is listed and Cellular Data is turned on. If no plan appears, the iPad has no carrier line yet. Apple’s cellular setup guide covers adding a plan with a physical SIM or eSIM.

The field is blank or shows “Unknown.” Some carriers don’t send the number to the iPad. Use your carrier account or activation email from the list above, or call the carrier and ask for the number on the iPad’s line. Have the iPad’s IMEI ready from the About screen so they can match it.

The number looks wrong. You can’t edit the cellular data number on the iPad. Only your carrier can change it, so contact them if it doesn’t match your account. After a carrier change or a new SIM, restart the iPad and check About again.

Your iPhone number won’t appear in Send & Receive. Update the iPad in Settings > General > Software Update, confirm both devices use the same Apple Account, and check that the number has a check mark on the iPhone. If it still won’t show, sign out of Messages and FaceTime on the iPad, sign back in on the iPhone first, then sign in on the iPad again.
