To block a channel in Apple News on an iPhone or iPad, tap the Search tab, search for the channel and tap it, tap the More Actions button, then choose Block Channel. Stories from that publication stop appearing in your Today feed, except for headlines Apple’s editors place in Top Stories.

How to Block a Channel in Apple News on iPhone or iPad
- Open the News app and tap the Search tab. On iPad, it’s in the tab bar.
- Search for the channel (the publication) you want to block, then tap it.
- Tap the More Actions button.
- Choose Block Channel.
The channel is added to your Blocked list, and its stories are removed from the rest of your feed.
Block a Channel From a Story
You don’t have to search. Apple’s iPhone guide says you can open a channel feed straight from the Today feed: touch and hold a story, tap the channel name, then tap Go to Channel. Or tap a story, then tap the channel name at the top of the story. At the top of the channel feed, tap the More button, then tap Block Channel.
Block a Topic Instead
If you want to avoid a subject rather than a publication, search for the topic (or tap a topic title such as Movies or Travel), tap More Actions, and choose Block Topic.
How to Block a Channel in Apple News on a Mac
- Click Search in the sidebar. If the sidebar isn’t shown, choose View > Show Sidebar in the menu bar.
- Search for the channel, then click it.
- Click the More Actions button.
- Choose Block Channel, then click Block.
Why You Might Still See a Blocked Channel
Apple explains that Top Stories appear the same for everyone. If a story from a channel you blocked is picked for Top Stories, you see the headline, but the channel is still blocked in the rest of your feed. This is expected and doesn’t mean the block failed.
If you want an even tighter feed, Apple offers a setting on iPhone: open Settings, tap Apps, tap News, then turn on Restrict Stories in Today and confirm. Apple warns that this significantly limits the variety of stories, and you won’t see Top Stories or Trending Stories at all.
How to Unblock a Channel in Apple News
- On iPhone, tap the Following tab. On iPad, tap the Sidebar button to open the sidebar if it’s closed.
- Scroll down to Manage and tap Blocked.
- Tap the Remove button next to the channel or topic.
- Tap Unblock.
The channel can appear in your feed again. If you also want to follow it, tap the Add button at the top of its feed.
On a Mac, choose File > Manage Blocked Channels & Topics in the menu bar, click the Remove button next to the channel, then click Unblock. You can also unblock from the channel’s own feed on iPhone: tap the More button, then tap Unblock Channel.
Other Ways to Shape Your Apple News Feed
- Suggest Less: In the Today feed, tap the More button below a headline, then tap Suggest Less (or Suggest More).
- Follow channels you like: Open a channel or topic feed and tap the Add button at the top.
- Favorites: Tap Following, tap Edit, then tap the Add Favorite button next to channels you follow.

Apple’s support article doesn’t say. If a channel still shows up on another device, block it there too using the steps for that device.
Can I block a single story?
