How to Remove a City from the Weather App on iPhone

To remove a city from the Weather app on an iPhone, open Weather, tap the list button in the bottom-right corner, swipe left on the city, and tap the trash button. The city disappears from your list right away.

These steps are for iOS 26 and iOS 27 and follow Apple’s Check the weather in other locations on iPhone guide. The list, swipe and trash steps are the same on iOS 16 and later. Separate sections below cover iPad, Mac and Apple Watch.

How to Remove a City From the Weather App

  1. Open the Weather app on your iPhone. You see the forecast for the first location in your list.
  2. Tap the list button (three lines) in the bottom-right corner. Your saved locations appear as a list of cards.
  3. Swipe left on the city you want to remove. A red trash button appears on the right.
  4. Tap the trash button.

The city is removed from your list with no confirmation prompt. If you removed the wrong one, search for it again and tap Add to put it back. Older versions of iOS show a Delete label instead of a trash icon, but it does the same thing.

Another Way: Edit the List

This method is handy when you want to remove several cities, or when swiping doesn’t work for you:

  1. Open the list of locations with the list button.
  2. Tap the More (…) button in the top-right corner.
  3. Select Edit List. A red minus (-) button appears next to each city.
  4. Tap the red minus button next to a city, then tap the trash button that appears.
  5. Repeat for any other cities, then tap Done.

The cities you picked are gone from the list. There is no “remove all” button, so clearing a long list means repeating step 4 for each city.

Removing a City Also Removes It From Your Other Devices

Apple says your list of locations stays up to date across your devices when you’re signed in to the same Apple Account. For example, with an iPhone and iPad: add or remove a city on one, and the change shows up on the other. Your Apple Watch uses the same list as your iPhone. So if a city disappears from your iPad or watch too, that’s why.

How to Remove a City on iPad, Mac and Apple Watch

iPad: Open Weather and tap the Sidebar button in the top-left corner if your list isn’t showing. Swipe left on the city and tap the trash button.

Mac: Apple’s Weather on Mac guide gives two ways. Click the Sidebar button in the toolbar, then Control-click a city and choose Delete. Or swipe left on the city with two fingers on a trackpad (one finger on a Magic Mouse) and click the Trash button.

Apple Watch: Open Weather on the watch and go to your list of locations. Swipe left on a city and tap Delete, as described in Apple’s Apple Watch Weather guide.

What About Your Current Location?

The location at the top of the list, marked My Location, is the one the iPhone detects for you. It isn’t a saved city, so it has no trash button and you can’t drag it lower in the list. The Weather app adds it automatically as long as Location Services is turned on for Weather.

To stop showing it, go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > Weather and choose Never. Keep in mind that the Weather app, and any Weather widget set to My Location, can’t show your local forecast without location access. You can still add your home city to the list by hand, and it stays fixed even when you travel.

How to Rearrange Cities in the Weather App

  1. Open Weather and tap the list button.
  2. Touch and hold a city until its card lifts slightly.
  3. Drag it up or down, then let go.

The city moves to its new spot. New locations are added to the bottom of the list by default, so this is how you bring a favorite to the top, just below My Location.

How to Add a City

  1. Open Weather and tap the list button.
  2. Tap the search field and enter the name of a city, ZIP code, neighborhood or airport.
  3. Tap the location in the search results to see its forecast.
  4. Tap Add to save it to your list.

The city appears at the bottom of your list. If you only want a quick look, tap Cancel instead and nothing is saved. If you don’t see an Add button, the city is already on your list. If a small town doesn’t show up in search, try a nearby larger city.

When you text someone a forecast, you can type the degree symbol on iPhone by holding the 0 key on the number keyboard.

Apple also offers a tip for search: turn on Home and Work in Settings > Apps > Weather to see those places in search results. You can also add a location from the weather map by touching and holding a spot on the map.

Troubleshooting

  • Swiping does nothing. Make sure you’re on the list screen, not a single forecast. Swipe slowly from the right edge of the city card, or use More (…) > Edit List instead.
  • The city came back. Another device signed in to your Apple Account may have added it again. Check your iPad, Mac or Apple Watch and remove it there as well.
  • A widget still shows the removed city. A Weather widget keeps its own location setting, separate from the app’s list. Touch and hold the widget, tap Edit Widget, and change Location. For more on the widget options, read about adding a Weather widget on iPhone.
  • The Weather app is missing. Weather is one of the built-in apps you can delete. Search for it in the App Store and download it again, or check the App Library. To learn how built-in apps come back, read about deleting and restoring apps on iPhone.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why did a city I removed come back?

Check your other Apple devices. Because the list syncs through your Apple Account, a city added on your iPad or Mac shows up on your iPhone too. Remove it on any one device and it should disappear from the rest.

Can I see the weather for a city without saving it?

Yes. Search for the city and tap it to see the forecast. Then tap Cancel without tapping Add, and it won’t be saved to your list.

Can I remove all cities at once?

No. The Weather app has no option to clear the whole list. Use Edit List and remove each city in turn. Deleting and reinstalling the app isn’t a dependable shortcut, because your list syncs through your Apple Account and can come back.

Does removing a city turn off its weather alerts?

Yes. Severe weather and rain alerts are set separately for each location, so removing a saved city also removes its alerts. Alerts for Current Location are not affected. You can review the rest in the list view under More (…) > Notifications, or read more about rain and snow notifications.
