There is no single Android switch that erases every search. If you searched in the Google app while signed in, remove the activity from that Google Account. If you want to erase pages visited in Chrome, clear Chrome browsing history separately. Check the account, app, and time range before deleting anything you may need later.
Delete Google Search history from your account
- On your Android phone, open the Google app and tap your profile picture or initial.
- Confirm the Google Account shown is the one whose history you intend to change, then tap Search history.
- Review the entries. Delete a single search, a day, a custom range, or all time using the available Delete control. Read the selected scope before confirming.
- Return to Search history and check that the intended entries are gone. If another signed-in device still shows them, connect it to the internet and allow it to sync.
These are Google’s current Android Search history instructions. Deleted account Search history cannot be recovered through this control. Deleting it does not necessarily remove Chrome history, another browser’s records, or searches kept by a different app.
Choose the right history before deleting
- Google Account Search activity: Google app > profile picture > Search history. This is the route above.
- Chrome pages visited: Chrome > More > History for individual entries, or More > Delete browsing data. Select a time range and Browsing history; uncheck cookies, cached files, and other categories you want to retain. If Chrome history sync is enabled, deletion also affects other synced Chrome devices. See Google’s Chrome instructions.
- Samsung Internet or Firefox: Open that browser’s own history or privacy controls. Clearing Google Account activity does not clear these browsers. Follow Samsung’s instructions or Mozilla’s instructions for the browser you actually use.
- Another app or account: Check its own activity controls and signed-in identity. Deleting from one Google Account does not delete a different account’s records.
If you still see an old search
Check whether the Google app is now signed in to a different account. Google says searches may also be saved on the device while signed out, and browser history can remain after account Search history is erased. For a recent query shown in the Google app search bar, touch and hold it and look for Delete. For a signed-out device, inspect the app’s current privacy and search-customization controls. Labels can vary as Google updates them; do not assume the account-history action erased local suggestions.
Automatic deletion and important limits
Google offers activity controls and automatic deletion for older activity. Check which control your account shows before changing it: Google is rolling out Search Services History alongside older Web & App Activity controls. A broad “Turn off and delete activity” choice may cover more than Google Search alone. Review the products and date range on the confirmation screen.
Clearing a history surface does not guarantee faster phone performance, erase copies held by websites or other services, remove cookies unless you select them separately, or prepare a phone for sale. For a handoff, use a separate backup and factory-reset process. Deletion starts Google’s removal process; it is not a promise that every copy disappears instantly from all systems.
