How to Block Incoming Friend Requests in MTG Arena

To block incoming friend requests in MTG Arena, select the gear icon at the top-right of the screen, choose Account, and check the box next to Block Incoming Friend Requests. New friend requests are blocked from then on. Uncheck the box whenever you want to accept requests again.

Why You Might Be Getting Friend Requests

MTG Arena has a Friends list that lets you add players, chat with them, and challenge them to matches. To add you, someone needs your full display name, including the five-digit number after it. Wizards’ Direct Challenge FAQ notes that display names are case sensitive, which makes it hard to add a stranger by guessing.

So if you’re getting requests from people you don’t know, your full name has probably been shared somewhere. That might be a stream, a forum post, a Discord server, or a tournament listing. You can see your own full name on your Profile page in the game.

Changing your name isn’t an easy fix. Wizards’ account help page says it typically doesn’t allow display name changes once you’ve picked one. That’s why blocking requests is usually the better option.

How to Block All Incoming Friend Requests

1. Open MTG Arena and sign in. Result: the home screen appears.
2. Select the gear icon at the top-right of the screen. Result: the Options menu opens.
3. Choose Account. Result: your account settings appear.
4. Check the box to the left of Block Incoming Friend Requests. Result: the box shows a check mark, and new friend requests are blocked.

The menu layout has changed a little over the years, so your screen may look different from these screenshots. If your screen looks different, look for the Account section of the Options menu.

What Blocking Friend Requests Does

• It stops new requests. Other players can’t send you a friend request while the box is checked.
• Your current friends stay. The setting doesn’t remove anyone already on your Friends list.
• You can still play your friends. Direct Challenge uses display names, so you can still set up matches with people you know.
• It’s easy to undo. Go back to the gear icon > Account and uncheck the box when you want to add someone.

If you want to add a specific friend while blocking is on, turn the setting off, have them send the request, accept it, then turn blocking back on.

If Only One Player Is the Problem

Blocking every request is the simplest fix, but you don’t have to cut off everyone. Open your Friends list from the person icon in the bottom-left corner of the screen. From there you can:

• Decline the request. Pending requests appear in your Friends list. Declining clears it from your list.
• Block that player. The Friends list has a block option, so one person can’t keep contacting you while everyone else still can.
• Keep your full name private. Avoid posting your name and #number in public places. Share it directly with the people you want to play.

How to Report a Player to Wizards

If a player is harassing you or has an offensive name, blocking stops the contact, but reporting tells Wizards about it. Wizards’ Report a Player article gives these steps:

1. Go to the MTG Arena support site and select Submit a Request at the top of the page. Result: the request form opens.
2. In the “What would you like to contact us about?” menu, select Report Conduct. Result: the conduct report fields appear.
3. In Description, enter the player’s name and specific details about what happened. Result: Wizards knows who you are reporting and why.
4. Under Attachments, add an HTML log file from your game if you can, plus any screenshots or stream clips. Result: your report includes evidence.
5. Select Submit. Result: your report is sent to Wizards.
