To remove Instagram’s stored app data on an iPhone, you can delete Instagram and reinstall it from the App Store. There is no Android-style Clear cache button in iPhone Storage. Offload App keeps documents and data, so it is not a reliable way to reset Instagram’s local data.
Before deleting: Instagram says uninstalling loses drafts saved on that device, including post and Reel drafts. Save anything important and make sure you can sign back in. If the app is only failing to load, try the quicker checks below before reinstalling.
Choose the right fix
- Instagram is slow or not loading: update the app, restart the iPhone and compare Wi-Fi with mobile data. A connection or service problem can look like a cache problem.
- Instagram uses too much storage: check its entry in iPhone Storage, then decide whether you are OK losing local drafts by reinstalling.
- You want to remove the app temporarily while retaining its data: use Offload App. Treat this as a storage option, not a complete cache reset.
- You use Instagram in Safari: follow the Safari cache and website-data guide. Clearing Safari data does not reset the separate Instagram app.
These steps are for the Instagram app on iPhone. Android phones have a separate Clear cache button in each app’s storage settings.
Protect drafts and account access first
Open Instagram and check unfinished posts and Reels before removing the app. Keep the original photos and videos, and preserve captions or other work you need. If you download a Reel to your camera roll, check the saved video, because music from Instagram’s music library is not included. A downloaded video also should not be treated as a backup of an editable Instagram draft.
If you cannot save a draft another way, keep the app installed until you are done with it. Logging in on another device will not bring the draft back, because drafts are stored on the device. Instagram’s post-draft guidance and Reel-draft guidance explain the uninstall warning.
Make sure you know your Instagram password and, if you use two-factor authentication, that you can still get the code. Fix any login problem before deleting the app.
Delete and reinstall Instagram on iPhone
- Open Settings > General > iPhone Storage. Wait for the app list to finish loading.
- Tap Instagram. You’ll see App Size and Documents & Data. Documents & Data includes more than temporary cache, so not all of it is safe to throw away.
- Tap Delete App, then tap Delete App again to confirm. This removes the app and its local data. Do this only after you’ve saved your drafts and checked your login. Offload App keeps documents and data instead.
- Open the App Store and find Instagram’s official listing. Reinstall the app using the download control. Use a working internet connection and allow the download to finish.
- Open Instagram and sign into the correct account. Complete any verification requested. Check your profile and the feature that was causing trouble before switching to another account.
You can also uninstall by holding Instagram’s Home Screen icon, choosing Remove App, then Delete App. Remove from Home Screen only hides the icon; it does not uninstall the app or clear its local storage.
Instagram’s official troubleshooting instructions include reinstalling and then signing in again. Deleting the app does not delete your Instagram account or your published posts; only unfinished drafts on the phone are lost.
Why Offload App is different
Apple’s iPhone storage documentation distinguishes offloading from deleting. Offloading removes the app itself while retaining documents and data. Reinstalling an offloaded app is therefore not the same as starting with no retained app data.
Offloading is the gentler choice when you want to keep drafts, but it will not clear Instagram’s cache. Neither option guarantees Instagram will load faster.

If Instagram still has the same problem
Try the latest available Instagram update and an iPhone restart first. For loading problems, compare Wi-Fi and mobile data where available. If the same account also fails in a browser or on another device, repeatedly reinstalling this iPhone app is unlikely to address the underlying account or service issue.
When reporting a problem through Instagram’s help options, describe the affected screen, what happens, the app version and what you already tried. Do not put your password or authentication code in a bug report.

Will I have to sign in again?
Be prepared to. Instagram’s reinstall instructions include signing in with your username and password. Saved credentials may make that easier, but you may not stay signed in.
Why does Instagram’s storage grow again?
As you use the app, it stores data again. A smaller storage number immediately after reinstalling does not mean it will remain that size, and normal growth alone is not a reason to delete the app on a schedule.
Can I clear only the cache without risking drafts?
There is no separate Instagram cache-only control in iPhone Storage. Avoid deletion when drafts matter. Start with updates, connection checks and a restart, and keep local work until you are ready to remove it.
