How to Add a Cryptocurrency to the iPhone Stocks App

To add a cryptocurrency to the iPhone Stocks app, open Stocks, tap the search button, type the coin’s trading pair (for example, BTC-USD for Bitcoin or ETH-USD for Ethereum), then tap the plus (+) button next to the result. The coin joins your My Symbols watchlist, where you can check its price, chart and related news like any stock.

This guide covers the Stocks app on iPhones running iOS 27. It shows how to find and add a cryptocurrency, organize coins in their own watchlist, see them in a Home Screen widget, sync them to your iPad and Mac, and fix a price that won’t update. Steps come from Apple’s iPhone User Guide, checked in October 2026. The Stocks app is for watching prices only; you can’t buy or sell anything in it.

Can the Stocks App Track Cryptocurrency?

Yes, for major coins. Apple’s Check stocks on iPhone guide says you can search for a ticker symbol, company, fund or index, and well-known cryptocurrencies appear in those search results as trading pairs against a currency, such as BTC-USD. Apple doesn’t publish a list of supported coins, and guides on other sites note that many smaller coins aren’t listed. If a coin doesn’t show up, a dedicated crypto app or your exchange’s app is the alternative.

  3. Type the cryptocurrency’s pair, such as BTC-USD, or its name, such as Bitcoin. Result: matching results appear.

  5. Tap the coin in your watchlist. Result: you see its latest price, daily change, chart and related news.

Reading the details

Apple says tapping a symbol lets you view interactive charts, performance details and related news. Tap a time range at the top of the chart to see how the price changed over that period, or touch and hold the chart to see the value at a specific time.

Put Your Coins in Their Own Watchlist

Apple’s Manage watchlists guide explains how to keep crypto separate from your stocks:

  1. In Stocks, tap the menu next to the current watchlist’s name, then tap New Watchlist. Result: a name field appears.
  2. Name it (for example, Crypto) and tap Save. Result: the new list is created.
  3. In that watchlist, tap search, find a coin, tap the plus button and confirm. Result: the coin appears in your Crypto list and in My Symbols.

To move an existing coin into the list, swipe left on it, tap Lists, and choose the watchlist. Apple notes that removing a symbol from a watchlist you created leaves it in My Symbols, but removing it from My Symbols removes it from every list.

  3. Tap Stocks and swipe to choose a Watchlist or Symbol widget and a size. Result: a preview appears.
  4. Tap Add Widget, then tap Done. Result: the widget shows on your Home Screen.

Sync Your Crypto Watchlist to iPad and Mac

Apple says you can view your watchlists on any iPhone, iPad or Mac signed in to the same Apple Account. On iPhone or iPad, go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud, tap See All next to Saved to iCloud, and turn on Stocks. On a Mac with macOS 13 or later, turn on Stocks in System Settings > [your name] > iCloud.

If a Crypto Price Isn’t Updating

  • Check your connection. Stocks needs internet access to download new prices.
  • Close and reopen Stocks. This forces a fresh download.
  • Restart your iPhone and check for iOS updates.
  • Remove and re-add the coin. Swipe left on it, tap Remove, then search for it again and add it back.

Prices in Stocks may be delayed and aren’t meant for trading decisions. Check your exchange for live prices before acting.
