How to Create a New Bitmoji Person on an iPhone

To create a brand new Bitmoji person on an iPhone, remove your current Bitmoji in Snapchat and build a new one: tap your profile icon, tap the gear icon, tap Bitmoji, tap Remove my Bitmoji, confirm, and then choose Create My Avatar. If you only want to change a few features, edit your existing avatar instead.

Snapchat is now the only app on the iPhone for this. Snapchat’s notice about the Bitmoji app says the standalone Bitmoji app stopped being available on June 30, 2026, and its avatar, sticker, and fashion features moved into Snapchat. These steps cover the current Snapchat app for iPhone as of October 2026, on iOS 26 and iOS 27. The old Gear icon > My Data > Reset Avatar option in the Bitmoji app no longer works.

Start Over or Edit: Which One You Need

There are two ways to get a different-looking Bitmoji, and they’re not interchangeable.

  • Edit your avatar if you want to change your hair, eyes, skin tone, glasses, body type, or outfit. You keep your current Bitmoji and change only what you pick. Our guide on how to change your Bitmoji avatar on an iPhone covers the Edit my avatar and Change Outfit steps.
  • Start over if you want a completely different person, you want to go back through the first-time setup, or you can’t get the look you want by editing. Bitmoji’s own help has long said that changing an avatar’s gender meant resetting and designing it again from scratch.

A good rule: if you’d keep more than half of your current avatar, edit it. Starting over takes longer, and it can’t be undone.

What You Lose When You Start Over

Read this before you tap anything. Snapchat doesn’t have a “reset” that keeps your account’s Bitmoji history. Starting over means removing your Bitmoji from Snapchat, and Bitmoji’s article on removing your Bitmoji from Snapchat lists what that does:

  • If you made your Bitmoji in Snapchat, removing it permanently deletes that avatar. You can’t restore it later.
  • Purchased fashion items in your closet are lost and can’t be recovered. If you’ve bought Bitmoji clothing, think hard about whether editing would do the job.
  • If your Bitmoji came from an email-based Bitmoji account, removing it from Snapchat unlinks that account. The old avatar stays tied to that email account, but it no longer shows up in Snapchat.

Take a screenshot of your current Bitmoji first. You won’t be able to bring it back, but a picture makes it much easier to rebuild features you liked.

Remove Your Bitmoji and Create a New One

  1. Open Snapchat. It opens to the Camera screen.
  2. Tap your profile icon (your current Bitmoji) in the top-left corner. Your profile page opens.
  3. Tap the gear icon in the top-right corner. The Settings screen opens.
  4. Under My Account, tap Bitmoji. You’ll see the options for your linked avatar.
  5. Scroll to the bottom and tap Remove my Bitmoji. A confirmation message appears.

Remove my Bitmoji is at the bottom of Settings > Bitmoji.
  1. Tap Remove to confirm. Your Bitmoji disappears from your profile, and the profile icon on the Camera screen changes to a plain outline.

Nothing changes until you confirm.
  1. Go back to the Camera screen and tap the profile icon in the top-left corner again.
  2. Tap Create My Avatar. The avatar creator opens.
  3. Follow the prompts to choose your starting look, then use the customization bar along the bottom to set features such as skin tone, hair, eyes, and face shape. The preview updates each time you tap an option.

Build your new Bitmoji with the customization bar, then tap Save.
  1. Pick an outfit, then tap Save. Your new Bitmoji appears on your profile and in your Snapchat stickers.

Before you tap Save, use the Undo and Redo buttons in the editor to step back through changes. After you save, those buttons no longer cover the edits you made, but you can reopen the editor any time from your profile.

If you don’t see Create My Avatar on your profile after step 7, open Settings > Bitmoji again. The option to create a new avatar also appears there once your old one is removed.

If You’ve Never Had a Bitmoji

There’s nothing to remove. Open Snapchat, tap the profile icon in the top-left corner, and choose Create My Avatar, as Bitmoji’s guide to using Bitmoji on Snapchat describes. Then follow steps 9 and 10 above.

If you used the old Bitmoji app and just installed Snapchat, you may not need a new person at all. Snapchat offers Link Existing Avatar during sign-up so you can bring over the avatar you already had. If you skipped it, look for the Bitmoji prompt on the Camera screen.

Check That Your New Bitmoji Is Working

  • Your profile: The new avatar should replace the outline in the top-left corner of the Camera screen.
  • Stickers in Snapchat: Open a chat, tap the sticker button, and look at the Bitmoji stickers. They should show your new person.
  • Stickers in other apps: Bitmoji stickers outside Snapchat now come from Snapchat’s keyboard and its iMessage extension. If they don’t show up when you type, see how to enable the Bitmoji keyboard on an iPhone.

Friends may see your old avatar for a few minutes. It updates once their app refreshes.

If Something Goes Wrong

You only have the old Bitmoji app. Its Reset Avatar option went away when the app stopped being available on June 30, 2026. Install Snapchat and follow the steps above. You can delete the Bitmoji app icon from your Home Screen once your avatar is in Snapchat.

You don’t see Remove my Bitmoji. Make sure you’re in Settings > Bitmoji and scroll all the way down, because it sits at the bottom of the screen. If it still isn’t there, update Snapchat from the App Store and try again.

You meant to edit, not start over. Stop at step 5 and back out. Nothing changes until you confirm the removal. Use Edit my avatar on your profile instead.

An item you had before isn’t offered. Snap adds and retires clothing and features, and some items were limited-time releases. Older Bitmoji styles, including the original 2D Bitmoji app styles, aren’t available in the creator. Snapchat+ subscribers can turn on Comic Bitmoji for a 2D look, which our Bitmoji avatar guide explains.

You can’t sign in to an old Bitmoji account. Bitmoji says that after you remove a Bitmoji from Snapchat, that Bitmoji account is tied to your email address and can’t use a phone number to log in. Use the email address to sign in or recover it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I have two Bitmoji people on one Snapchat account?

No. A Snapchat account shows one linked Bitmoji at a time, and Bitmoji says you can’t link a different Bitmoji account while one is already linked. Making a new person replaces the one you have.

Can I get my old Bitmoji back after removing it?

Not if you created it in Snapchat. Bitmoji says removing it permanently removes the avatar, so you’d have to rebuild it by hand. That’s why a screenshot beforehand helps.

Do I have to start over to change my Bitmoji’s gender?

Start with Edit my avatar and look through the categories, such as body type and hair, to see if you can get the look you want. If you can’t, starting over lets you pick a new base look from the beginning.

Does removing my Bitmoji delete my Snapchat account?

No. Remove my Bitmoji is a Bitmoji setting, separate from deleting your Snapchat account. It takes the avatar off your profile and leaves the Snapchat account in place.

Can I still make a Bitmoji in the Bitmoji app?

No. Snap retired the Bitmoji app on June 30, 2026. Creating, editing, and dressing your Bitmoji on an iPhone all happen in Snapchat now.
