How to Change Your Contact Card (My Card) on a MacBook Air

To change your contact card on a MacBook Air, open the Contacts app, select the card with your information, and choose Card > Make This My Card. To edit what’s on it, select your card and click Edit. If you use the same Apple Account with Contacts turned on in iCloud, your iPhone and other devices use that card as your My Card too.

How to Change Your My Card on a Mac

Apple says Contacts creates a card for you automatically when you set up your Mac. If it picked the wrong card, or you share the Mac and want someone else’s card used, change it:

1. Open the Contacts app.
2. Select the contact card with your information.
3. In the menu bar, choose Card > Make This My Card.

Result: That card becomes your My Card. To check, choose Card > Go to My Card, or look for My Card at the top of the contacts list.

Apple notes that if you’re signed in to the same Apple Account on each device and have Contacts turned on in iCloud settings, the card you choose becomes your My Card on those devices too.

How to Edit Your Contact Card

1. Select your card, then click Edit at the top of the window.
2. Click a field and type your changes. To add a field, click the add button and choose one, such as a nickname or a second email address.
3. To change a label, such as Home to Work, click the label and choose a different one.
4. Click Done.

Result: Your card updates. Apple says empty fields don’t appear on the card, so you don’t need to fill in everything. With iCloud Contacts turned on, the changes show up on your other devices.

Change the picture on your card

1. Select your card and choose Card > Choose Custom Image.
2. Pick a Memoji, emoji, or monogram, take a photo with your Mac’s camera, or choose a picture from Photos.
3. Drag the slider to zoom and drag the picture to position it.
4. Click Save, then Done.

Result: Your new picture appears on your card. Apple says the picture or Memoji you choose for your My Card is also used as your Apple Account picture and your Mac’s login picture.

How to Keep Parts of Your Card Private

Your card can be shared or exported as a vCard. The steps are different on a phone; see how to share contacts on iPhone. To control what goes out:

1. Choose Contacts > Settings and click vCard. Select Enable private me card there.
2. Select your card and click Edit.
3. Select the Share checkbox next to each field you want to include.
4. Click Done.

Result: Apple says only the fields you checked are included when you share or export your card from your Mac. Hidden fields can sometimes still be shared, so test by sending your card to yourself first.

Why Your My Card Matters

• Safari AutoFill: Apple says Safari can use your card to fill in your contact information on web forms.
• Siri: add Related Name fields, such as mother or doctor, so you can ask Siri things like “When is my uncle’s birthday?” Siri uses your nickname instead of your first name if you add one.
• Messages and Mail: Apple says your picture can be used in other apps, such as Messages or Mail.

Troubleshooting

• Your iPhone shows a different card: make sure both devices use the same Apple Account and have Contacts turned on in iCloud settings.
• Edits don’t sync: Apple notes that if you edit a card stored in a read-only account, such as Exchange or Google, the changes appear only in Contacts on your Mac.
