How to Update Minecraft Bedrock on Windows 11

To update Minecraft Bedrock Edition on Windows 11, open the Minecraft Launcher, select Minecraft: Bedrock Edition, open the Installation tab, and select Check for Updates. You can also open the Microsoft Store, select Library, and select Get updates. Minecraft Help says updates normally install automatically while your PC is online, so you only need these steps when the game says it’s out of date.

This guide covers Minecraft: Bedrock Edition (sometimes listed as Minecraft for Windows) on Windows 11 and 10. It shows both official update methods, how to keep updates automatic, what to do when an update won’t install, and how to check your version. Java Edition is covered briefly at the end. Steps follow Minecraft Help and minecraft.net, checked in October 2026.

Update From the Minecraft Launcher

These are the steps in Minecraft Help’s Manually Update Minecraft: Bedrock Edition on PC.

  1. Open the Minecraft Launcher. Result: the Launcher lists your Minecraft games on the left.
  2. Select Minecraft: Bedrock Edition. Result: if an update is waiting, an Update button appears; select it and you’re done.
  3. If there’s no Update button, select the Installation tab at the top. Result: your Bedrock installation is listed.
  4. Select Check for Updates. Result: the Launcher checks and downloads the newest version if there is one.

Minecraft Help notes that updates happen automatically through the Launcher while your device is in use or in standby with an internet connection. The manual check can only be run about once an hour, so don’t keep clicking it. For smoother play after updating, see how to turn on Game Mode in Windows 11.

Update From the Microsoft Store

minecraft.net’s update instructions for Windows use the Microsoft Store:

  1. Open the Microsoft Store. Result: the Store home page opens.
  2. Select Library in the lower-left corner. Result: your installed Store apps and games are listed.
  3. Select Get updates. Result: the Store updates every installed app that has an update, including Minecraft.
  4. Wait for Minecraft to finish, then open the game. Result: the title screen shows the new version.

If the Store won’t open, see how to get the Microsoft Store working on Windows 11.

Keep updates automatic

In the Microsoft Store, select your profile picture, then Settings, and turn on App updates. The Launcher also updates on its own when it’s allowed to run in the background.

If Minecraft Won’t Update

Illustration: what to try when Minecraft Bedrock won’t update.
  1. Wait a little. New versions don’t always appear for everyone at the same moment. Try again in 30 to 60 minutes. Result: the update often shows up on its own.
  2. Check your sign-in. Sign in to the Microsoft Store and the Xbox app with the account that owns Minecraft. Result: the Store can see your license and offer the update.
  3. Update Windows. Install updates in Settings > Windows Update and restart. Result: missing system components are installed.
  4. Repair Gaming Services if Store games won’t install. See how to install Gaming Services on Windows 11. Result: the service that installs Store games works again.
  5. Repair the app. Go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps, select the three dots next to Minecraft or the Minecraft Launcher, choose Advanced options, and select Repair. Result: damaged app files are fixed.

Before you use Reset or uninstall Minecraft, back up your worlds. Reset clears the app’s data, and Bedrock worlds you haven’t backed up or synced to a Realm may be stored locally.

Check Your Minecraft Version

The version number appears in the lower-right corner of the title screen. Compare it with the latest release listed in the Launcher or on minecraft.net. If friends can’t join your world, everyone usually needs the same version.
