While it is pretty common for Outlook users to keep their email open throughout the course of the day, not everyone keeps Outlook open as their primary window.

So we rely on notifications and alerts to let us know when new messages have arrived, then we can navigate to Outlook when we are done with our current task.

But the default notification settings in Outlook 2013 will play a sound when you receive a new message, which can be annoying if you get a lot of emails.

Fortunately, you can disable this alert sound without turning off any of the other alert options.
