Both the HP ENVY 6-1010us Sleekbook 15.6-Inch Laptop (Black) and the ASUS A55A-AB51 15.6-Inch Laptop (Charcoal) are excellent computers that cost approximately the same amount of money. Someone that is looking for a computer in this price range at this size is likely to investigate each of these computers separately. However, when you are looking at two different computers on their own, it can be difficult to remember what one computer offers in comparison to another.
So we’ve created this helpful chart that shows what each laptop has to offer in some specific categories.Since each computer could be better for a different user, it is difficult to say which is the better machine. I will, however, say which computer I would choose myself. But that should not be meant as a specific endorsement of one computer over another, simply that the chosen computer is better for my needs.

One thing to bear in mind when choosing between these two computers is not to pay much attention to the manufacturer. Asus is not quite at the level of name brand recognition as HP for the typical consumer, but they have been making excellent laptop computers for several years. They are also well known in the industry for their production of internal computer components.
Each laptop features a couple of special features that are specific to their manufacturers, however. The Asus includes IceCool Technology, which will help keep the surface off that laptop around the keyboard at a comfortable level. This is very helpful if you use your computer for several hours at a time for more intensive tasks like game-playing or multi-tasking. The Asus also has PalmProof Technology that is part of the trackpad. This means that the trackpad is capable of identifying the difference between your fingertips and your palm, which prevents inadvertent palm touches from moving the mouse cursor.
The HP has a similar surface cooling technology called HP CoolSense that delivers a similar result to the Asus option. The HP, however, has a feature called HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection that will help minimize the potential for hard drive damage in case you drop the laptop.
One final thing to take into consideration is the fact that the HP laptop is identified as a “Sleekbook” which is similar in theory to an ultrabook, but that name is reserved for models with Intel processors. It has an impressive 9 hour battery life, because the laptop is designed with that feature heavily in mind. While many factors contribute to this extended battery life, one major factor is that there is no optical drive. That means that you cannot insert a CD, DVD or Blu-Ray disc into the computer, either to read or write to. This helps to keep the weight down and the battery life up, but can be an important feature for some users.
As mentioned above, I will now let you know which computer i would purchase. I prefer the HP to the Asus. The battery life is incredible, and I like all of the other portability features that it offers. Additionally, I do not often need a full numeric keypad on a laptop, so I prefer the additional keyboard space that is available because of it. But it is also worth mentioning that the Asus is the more powerful of the two options, and you can actually manually upgrade components on the Asus machine.
