When you are shopping for a 17 inch laptop, you tend to place more value on certain features than someone looking for a smaller laptop might. 17 inch laptops are more commonly purchased as “desktop replacements” because they have a larger screen and more weight. However, since portability is not as big of a concern, manufacturers are able to put more powerful components in the computer without having to worry as much about weight or battery life. But while these are still concerns, as the Acer Aspire V3-771G-9875 17.3-Inch Laptop (Midnight Black) is still a laptop, it is easier to forgive a shorter battery life and increased weight when you are getting a good video card, processor and RAM for a low price.

A good way to determine the value of a laptop is by comparing it to another similar laptop. The two computers in the table above are similar in price, are both 17 inch models, and offer comparable trade-offs in different categories. For example, the Acer has a faster processor, but the Dell has a faster hard drive. Check out the table above to see how these two machines stack up against one another. If you want to see more about one of the computers, click the Check Price link underneath each respective laptop.
When looking at the two laptops above, my personal preference is the Acer. While the Dell has a superior optical drive and a faster hard drive, the fact that the Acer has a better processor is more important to me. Hard drive and RAM can be cheaply replaced or upgraded, while a processor cannot. And while the ability to view Blu-Ray movies on the computer is a nice feature, I find that I have been streaming and downloading movies much more often, almost to the point where I might not need an optical drive at all in the near future. This is a big reason why I have frequently been recommending ultrabooks to friends and co-workers that are looking for a new 13 or 15 inch laptop. Removing the optical drive from a laptop greatly reduces the weight, and most ultrabooks feature very impressive battery life. The two biggest reasons to buy the Acer Aspire V3-771G-9875 are the graphics card and the processor. You are going to get some serious performance out of this computer, even when playing games or doing some video editing. And the fact that you can upgrade the RAM to 16 GB (32GB if you upgrade to Windows 7 pro or Ultimate) means that you can make this computer very powerful. This is possible because of the four RAM slots on the motherboard, which is a useful element to have available to you.
There are a lot of reasons to like this laptop, one of which is the favorable reviews it is getting from owners at Amazon.
