Portability

This computer is super-portable, and it is this characteristic that makes it so appealing. At less than 3 lbs. and under .5 inches in width, this is comparable in size to the MacBook Air. You will also get approximately 5.5 hours of battery life under normal use, and the fast 802.11 b/g/n WiFi connection will ensure that you can easily connect to any wireless network that you encounter as you travel with this laptop. Its’ overall small size makes it simple to toss in a briefcase, purse or backpack without taking up too much space. I have found that I typically needed a dedicated bag when I was traveling with my slightly older 15 inch Dell laptop, but these 13 inch ultrabooks can easily be tossed into a bag that you were going to be bringing with you anyway. And because of the excellent build quality and sturdy materials that were used to construct this computer, you can rest assured that it will easily stand up to the stress of normal wear and tear.

Performance

It is in this area where certain concessions were made by Acer in order to get the machine into this price range. But that does not mean that this is an under-performing machine by any stretch of the imagination. The hybrid drive (a combination of a standard 500 GB hard drive and a 20 GB solid state drive) will increase the performance of Windows 8, while still providing you with the space that you need to store all of your media and work materials. The Intel i3 processor can multi-task Web browsers, Microsoft Office and other programs with ease, but may lag if you choose to play some resource-intensive games or perform more demanding tasks like video editing.

Connectivity

As with any computer that is designed for travel, connectivity is a very important characteristic to take into consideration. We have already mentioned the capable wireless card, but the inclusion of 2 USB 3.0 ports will come in handy if you need to connect any USB 3.0-compatible external hard drives. And because the 13.3 inch screen may be too small for certain tasks, you can take advantage of the HDMI port to connect the laptop to a larger monitor if needed. It is important to note, however, that this computer does not have a wired ethernet port. So it may be a good idea to purchase a USB ethernet adapter if you want to ensure that you can connect in a network environment that only offers wired options. This ultrabook is also missing a DVD or CD drive, like most ultrabooks, so the majority of your software installations will either need to be downloaded or installed over a network.

Conclusion

If you are looking for an ultrabook and you don’t want to spend more than $700, then this is a very good choice. Reviews from owners have been very positive, the build quality is superb and the portability is impressive. it may not have all of the features that you would get with more expensive options but, if you can live without the additional features that those laptops provide, then you will be happy with this computer.
