WASPcam™ 9907 4K Review

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of WASPcam™ for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.

I have been interested in getting an action camera that I could use for a number of different reasons in my everyday life, so I was excited to give the WASPcam™ 9907 4K a try. It is capable of producing high-resolution videos and images in a lot of different environments, which is a level of versatility that I have never had access to from a camera in the past.

After putting the WASPcam™ through its paces for the past few days and trying it out in a number of different situations, I am happy with how it has performed, and know that I will continue to use it whenever possible.

This is a great gift for the adventurer or outdoor sport-enthusiast in your life, and they will certainly be able to make use of it in their lifestyle. (Plus you will get to see all the awesome videos that they record!) I will discuss my experience with the camera in my review below, while also providing some videos and images that I took with the camera.

Packaging and Initial Reaction

The packaging in which the WASPcam™ 9907 4K arrived at my home is very eye-catching. It is a protective, hard-plastic case that shows off the beauty of the device, while still providing a lot of protection.

This camera is also very small. I had read several reviews of this camera before I received it, and all of them made note of the size. Still, I was very surprised by how small and light it actually is. It’s compact, but does not feel fragile. That is definitely the combination of characteristics that you want in an adventure cam which is likely to suffer a couple bumps and bruises.

Once you remove the WASPcam™ from its packaging, you see everything that is included.

The full list of items in this image includes:

  • Charging cable
  • Flat adhesive mount piece with double-sided tape
  • Short basic buckle
  • Anti-fog inserts
  • the WASPcam
  • Straight joint mount
  • Tall J-hook buckle
  • Curved adhesive mount piece with double-sided tape
  • Battery pack
  • Instruction manual

After making sure that I had all of the items that I should, I installed the battery and the memory card (note that the memory card does not come with the WASPcam™. You will need to purchase that separately. It’s a MicroSD card.) Opening this compartment can be a little tricky if you have large hands, but it is no more difficult than any other small electronic device. There’s a button on the top of the camera that you slide to the left, then you lift it up to reveal the compartment that contains the memory card and the battery. Install both of those items and close the cover, charge the battery for a little while (my battery was dead when I received it, but the camera was fully charged after about 2 hours), then you’re ready to get started.

Size and Weight

waspcam 9907 size comparison

Since the size and weight of the WASPcam™ are so important and so noticeable, those characteristics will play a big part in your overall impressions of the camera. You can see it in the image below next to a Coke can.   Note that I have one of the mounts connected to the camera in that picture, so it’s actually even a little smaller without the mount. The WASPcam™ will easily fit in your pocket, and you can carry it around without even really noticing it. This is perfect if you plan to use the camera (like me) without mounting it to a helmet or anything.

Video Quality Review

The most important aspect of this camera, to me, is the quality of the video. There are a lot of different ways that you can use this camera, but one that I am interested in is its ability to function as a dashcam in my car. I set it up on my dashboard (connect one of the mounts to the bottom of the camera, then use the double-sided tap to fix it to the dashboard), and recorded the videos below. Note that one of these videos was recorded in 1080p, and the other was recorded in 2160p (4K). The difference in quality between the two is definitely noticeable, but the quality of the 1080p video is still really good.

The stability and detail in the driving videos is excellent, and I’m certain that this would be very helpful in the event of an accident, or some other scenario where I needed video proof of what happened from my car.

My second video test comes from a short hike while playing disc golf on a local mountainous course. I removed the camera from the dashboard mount by sliding it out of the mounting base fixed to my dashboard, then I put the camera in my pocket. I recorded the two videos below as I was walking through the woods. Again one is in 1080p and the other is in 2160p.

WASPcam™ 9907 4K Highlights

  • The camera looks fantastic, and the packaging is cool and eye-catching. There will definitely be a “wow” factor when you give this to someone as a gift.
  • This camera is very small, but feels very sturdy.
  • The app (downloadable for free through the Google Play Store and the iOS App Store) makes it easy to view a live stream via the camera, or to check the videos that you have already recorded. You can use this feature by pressing a Wi-Fi button on the camera, which causes the WASPcam™ to create its own Wi-Fi network. Then you connect to that network from your phone. The app will automatically detect the camera.
  • The WASPcam™ 9907 4K has a waterproof case-less design, and is built to be waterproof for up to 98 feet.

Additional noteworthy features of the camera:

  • Waterproof up to 98 feet (30 meters) without the need for a separate case
  • 1.5″ LCD Screen
  • Records 4K HD Video, at up to 24 frames per second. Lower resolutions will record with higher framerates.
  • Picture quality up to 20 megapixels
  • Use the WASPcam™ App and the built in Wi-Fi to connect your phone to the camera
  • Record video time-lapses
  • There is a side bracket on the camera that allows for additional mounting accessories, as well as some more options for mounting angles

WASPcam™ 9907 4K Review Conclusion

Overall I am happy with this camera and the videos and images that it can produce. The build quality and performance of the camera are everything that was advertised, and someone that purchases this camera looking to take “action” videos and images will be very pleased with it. For just $329.95 you get a 4K waterproof camera, along with all of the accessories that you need, and my experience with the device so far leads me to believe that it is more than worth that price.

It was so convenient to take this camera with me that it will definitely be coming along for any trip where I might want to record something that I’m doing. It’s much less likely to break than my iPhone is if I drop it, it’s easy to put the camera on a flat surface to record something if I’m not able to hold or mount the camera, and the fact that it is waterproof means that I won’t need to worry if I’m in inclement weather, or if I want to record video while boating or kayaking.

If you have someone on your shopping list that likes to take part in outdoor activities and you think that they would enjoy the ability to record their videos in crystal-clear resolution, then the WASPcam™ is a gift that they will certainly love.
