Toshiba Satellite U845-S402 review

Pros:

  • Intel i3 Processor
  • Hybrid hard drive
  • Lightweight
  • Incredible battery life
  • Lightweight
  • USB 3.0 connectivity

Cons:

  • Only 4 GB of RAM
  • Integrated graphics and the i3 processor make this a poor choice for gaming
  • No backlit keyboard
  • No optical drive (though this is a common characteristic of ultrabooks)

The keyboard is really well built and comfortable to type on. While some people may miss the 10-key that is commonly found on laptops nowadays, I find its’ absence to make for a much more comfortable typing experience, especially on 13 and 14 inch computers. And since this computer is about portability, convenience and comfort, the standard keyboard was definitely the right choice. And speaking of portability, the battery life on this computer is amazing. You will be able to use it for the duration of any domestic plane flight, or for a full day of classes. Thanks to the hybrid hard drive you can also close the lid to enter sleep mode and not worry about long wake up times. The hybrid hard drive uses its’ 16 GB solid state drive for system-critical files, which it can load much more quickly than a standard hard drive. This is why this laptop can boast of lightning fast boot times.

This computer is meant for someone that is constantly on the go. Whether you are using it for your business or as a busy student on campus, all of the features on this computer are meant to make carrying it around an afterthought. It’s lightweight, thin and compact and, as mentioned previously, offers an awesome amount of battery life. However, much of this battery life comes from components that are meant for portability. While this computer will easily manage your Web browsing, email and use of regular programs like Microsoft Office and Adobe products, it will struggle under the load of heavy gaming or video editing.

Toshiba offers a solid ultrabook with this computer, especially when compared to other similar machines in this price range. The battery life is among class leaders, and is one of the main reasons that people have been choosing this laptop. If you buy this computer expecting a laptop that was built to travel and will make portable computing a breeze, then you will be happy with your purchase.
