How to Switch Between Banners and Alerts for iPhone Messages

There are two different ways that you can be alerted to new text messages or iMessages on your iPhone.

One option is to use alerts, which are notification windows that pop up in the center of your screen. You need to tap a button to make these types of notifications go away.

The second type of notification is a banner, which is shown at the top of the screen and goes away automatically.

Each person has their own preference on how they like to handle notifications (you might even want to silence them for a certain conversation), and you can easily switch between the two options if you find that you do not prefer your current choice.
