Sony VAIO T Series SVT13122CXS review

Pros:

  • Long battery life
  • Lightweight
  • USB 3.0 connectivity
  • Fast wake up and boot times due to hybrid drive
  • HDMI port to connect the computer to your TV
  • Gigabit ethernet, 802.11 bgn WiFI and Bluetooth 4.0

Cons:

  • Only 2 USB ports
  • No backlit keyboard
  • No optical drive
  • Integrated graphics and i3 processor make heavy gaming difficult

My favorite part about this ultrabook is the hybrid drive. Solid state drives are gaining a lot of popularity for the speed with which they can access data, as well as for their level of reliability. But large solid state drive are still expensive, so Sony has leveraged the speed and reliability of the solid state drive to boot and wake your computer quickly, while allowing you to install programs and files on the less expensive 500 GB 5400 RPM drive. So you gain the power of the solid state drive where you need it the most, while keeping costs down with a standard hard drive in areas where a solid state drive is less useful.

This laptop is for someone that travels a lot, but always needs to stay in contact with friends, family, or the office. This computer features a fast gigabit ethernet connection – something that is not natively found on a lot of ultrabooks. This is very useful if you are staying in a hotel or are in an office that only has a wired Internet connection. The USB, HDMI and Bluetooth 4.0 ports and connections make it easy to incorporate your devices into whatever tasks you are performing. Whether you are a student that needs to take notes in class or a businessman or woman that needs to check their emails or do work on the road, then this laptop will meet your needs.

This is a solid ultrabook option for someone that needs the benefits that an ultrabook class of computers can offer, but who doesn’t want to spend $1000 on a MacBook Air or top of the line Asus. If you need something portable that is good for multitasking, Web browsing and Microsoft Office work, then this computer is for you. People looking for a machine for heavy gaming or video editing, however, should look instead for a laptop with a dedicated graphics card and an i7 processor.
