  1. Click the Norton 360 icon in the system tray.
  2. Select the Settings link.
  3. Choose the Antivirus option.
  4. Select the Scans and Risks tab.
  5. Turn off the Email antivirus scan option.
  6. Click Apply.

Norton 360 is a very comprehensive security package that provides a complete assortment of tools to protect your computer at every potentially vulnerable point.

Many of these tools are the ones that you know about, such as the antivirus protection, the Norton Firewall, and the Identity Protection that are all mentioned on the home screen of the Norton 360 program.

However, there are other utilities, such as the email scanner, that you might not even realize you have.

The email scanner checks messages that you receive and send for any potentially dangerous file attachments that could harm your computer or could harm someone else’s computer.

It is an effective tool, but for several possible reasons, you might want to turn it off. You can use the following procedure if you want to learn how to disable or turn off email scanning in Norton 360.

How to Disable Norton 360 Email Scanning (Guide with Pictures)

The steps in this section are going to show you how to find the email scanning setting in Norton 360 and turn it off.

Step 1: As is the case for all of the changes that you want to make to your Norton 360 installation, you can begin by clicking the Norton 360 icon in the system tray at the bottom-right corner of your computer screen.

This will open the Norton 360 home screen.

The majority of this screen is filled with the current status of the major elements of the Norton 360 program, but some of the more important changes that you can make to the program are found by clicking the row of links at the top of the window.

Step 2: For the purpose of turning off your Norton 360 email scanning, you need to click the Settings link.

Step 3: Click the Antivirus link at the top-left corner of the window.

Step 4: Click the Scans and Risks tab at the top of the window, then look for the Email antivirus scan option toward the bottom of the window.

Step 5: Click the green bar to the right of that option so that it turns to red and displays the word Off.

Step 6: Click the Apply button at the bottom of the window to turn off the Norton 360 email scanner.

If you are only disabling the email scanner temporarily, be sure to come back here as soon as possible to enable it again. It can be a very helpful tool in a lot of situations.
