How to Disable Javascript in Adobe Reader XI

Turning Off Javascript in Adobe Reader 11

The steps in this article will disable the Javascript capabilities in the Adobe Reader PDF viewer. This will prevent any Javascript from being executed in files that you open with Adobe Reader.

Depending upon what you are viewing, this could make it difficult for you to read or use the document as needed. Additionally, this will only turn off Javascript for Adobe Reader. Other applications, including other Adobe products, will still continue to use Javascript.

Step 1: Launch Adobe Reader XI.

Step 2: Click Edit at the top of the window, then click Preferences.

Step 3: Click Javascript in the column at the left side of the window.

Step 4: Click the box to the left of Enable Acrobat Javascript to clear the check mark and turn it off. You can then click the OK button at the bottom of the window to apply your changes.
