Best-Selling Laptops – September 5, 2013

Looking at laptops that are selling better than others is a great way to find a quality laptop, because a lot of people shop the same way. You start shopping for a laptop, typically with a price range or specific type of computer in mind. You read reviews, check prices and ultimately decide on a laptop that seems like it is fast, well-made and that has received positive reviews from people that own the laptop. And since most people are interested in getting the best value for their money, this usually results in the laptops that provide the best value per dollar rising to the top of the ranks.

So with these facts in mind, here are a few of the best-selling laptops available at Amazon on September 5, 2013. You can view the entire list here.

1. Samsung Chromebook

This laptop runs the Chrome operating system, which is something that you may not be familiar with if you haven’t looked at new computers in a while. It is very different from a typical operating system, and a lot of your information is going to be stored in the 100 GB of Google Drive storage that comes with the laptop. It does have a small hard drive for local storage, but the majority of your usage of the Chromebook is going to require an Internet connection, and everything is going to be done through the Chrome Web browser. You won’t be able to install Microsoft Office, Photoshop or any other type of software that you would be able to use on a typical Windows laptop.

But if you want a cheap, light, portable laptop to browse the Web and don’t mind using websites and Web applications (especially Google Drive) to get your work done, then this is something to consider.

2. Toshiba Satellite C55D-A5240NR 15.6-Inch Laptop (Satin Black in Trax Horizon)

This is another inexpensive laptop option that is targeted towards customers that need a minimal amount of computing power. However, unlike the Chromebook, this laptop runs Windows 8, has a 500 GB hard drive, and will allow you to install programs to your hard drive.

This is a good option if you know that you won’t be using the laptop to play a lot of games, edit pictures or videos, or any other resource-intensive task that is going to require a lot more processing power or RAM. But if you just need a computer to check email and Facebook, run Microsoft Office programs like Excel or Word, and watch streaming videos from Netflix and YouTube, then this is a great choice.

3. Acer C710-2833 11.6-Inch Chromebook – Iron Gray (16GB SSD)

This is yet another Chromebook, although it is less expensive than the Samsung model that is firmly entrenched at the *1 spot on the best-seller list. There is a lot more history and reports from users of the Samsung Chromebook, which is the main reason that a functionally identical product that costs more is able to outsell this Acer. But this type of laptop is targeted more towards people that are choosing between a tablet and a netbook, and the lowest cost option is certainly a intriguing choice.

As mentioned previously, this is very different from a regular laptop, which is the most important factor to consider before you consider getting a Chromebook.

4. Apple MacBook Pro MD101LL/A 13.3-Inch Laptop

Amazon’s best-seller list typically features at least one Apple product near the top, and now is no exception. This 13 inch MacBook Pro is portable, has a great battery life, and packs a ton of power. Regardless of your opinion of Apple, it is hard to deny that their products don’t feature some of the best build quality around, which includes one of the best keyboards and trackpads on the market.

Some people will jump to dismiss the 13 inch MacBook Pro because they think the screen is too small, or that a Windows laptop with comparable specs can be found for a fraction of the price. However, few of those laptops are built as well as the MacBook Pro, and none of them will retain their value as well, should you decide to sell your laptop several months into the future.

5. Dell Inspiron 15 i15RV-6190BLK 15.6-Inch Laptop (Black Matte with Textured Finish)

Rounding out Amazon’s top 5 list is a Dell Inspiron, a popular choice among people shopping for budget laptops. Dell has historically done an impressive job of packing the Inspiron line with value, while maintaining their top-notch build quality.

Like the Toshiba Satellite mentioned previously, this is another low-cost laptop that was designed for the casual, budget-minded laptop shopper. It will allow you to browse the Web, connect your USB devices, run Microsoft Office, and even connect your computer to your TV with an HDMI cable. Gamers, power-users and video editors should probably look for something with some more power, but if you only have a limited amount of things for which you need to use your computer, then this inexpensive Inspiron is worth a look.

The list continues to include up to the 100th best-selling laptop. So if you are looking for an affordable powerhouse laptop, something to game on, or a 17-inch laptop with a great screen, you can look at the remainder of the top 100 list for your perfect laptop.
